Hello,

Thanks for stopping by for this week’s newsletter.

This week, the main story is about the partnership between Starlink and Jumia. With this partnership, Jumia will now stock starlink residential kits in Kenya for Ksh 39,500. This is supposed to be an offer so you better grad a kit if you wanted one before the price is adjusted upwards.

Strarlink provides satellite-based internet services. The Starlink network consists of thousands of small, low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellites that orbit the Earth at an altitude of around 550 kilometers. These satellites are equipped with advanced technology, including phased array antennas and laser communications, which allows them to provide high-speed internet access to users on the ground.

Partnering with Jumia is a strategic move as Starlink has the chance of reaching a bigger audience than they would not have accessed on their own.

The biggest issue that has been raised about Starlink is that its internet services can be unreliable and its upload speeds are not so good. It is also not the best option for gaming as the latency is a bit high. This service is for someone who lives out of a big city where fibre internet providers are not available. it is also not cheap at Ksh 6,500 so it can be perfect for an out of the city setting for a small family. For anyone in a big town with access to other internet providers, starlink may not be that attractive.

Active Investors

This week saw a total of 24 investors who took part in the 3 funding rounds, sounds like an overkill considering that only $6.3 million was raised.
